The 1st year field internship

 

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

1. First real work experience (Full time, at least one month)

2. Discover what it means to work (Operationnal tasks, in contact with the public)

3. To serve others, in France or abroad (Community sector, public or private company)

4. How to find an internship/a job ( Network, recruitment forums, job interviews)

Conditions

  • mandatory for first year Undergraduate students
  • undertook between May 26th  and August 25th of your first year
  • minimum of 4 consecutive weeks full-time
  • in France or abroad
  • the field internship can be fixed-term, long-term or a temporary work.
  • the field intern can be paid a stipend

requesting an exemption form

An exemption may be granted to students who have work experience or undertook an internship matching the criteria of field internship in the 3 years preceding their first year at Sciences Po. 
Requests must be sent to the Careers Service with supporting documents between December 1st and April 30th of the academic year:

  • In case of fixed term contract : pay slip
  • In case of an internship : certificate of internship from the host organization  
  • An updated resume

Your request will then be reviewed by the Careers Service. Incomplete applications will not be considered. An exemption of field internship results in the validation of the respective course credits.

To request to be exempted of an internship:

fullfill the exemption form and return documents by mail

The field internship is evaluated and validated by the Careers Service on the basis of documents that must be submitted before 1st October of your second year. Delivery of such documents results in the allocation of your ECTS (internship credits). 

Documents to be returned by email before 1st October, all documents must be sent together at the end of the internship :

  • In case of an internship:
    - assessment form
    - internship report
    - updated resume (field internship included)
  • In case of a fixed term contract:
    - pay slip 
    - internship report
    - updated resume (field internship included)

→ Have it filled out, signed and stamped by your host organization's internship tutor or manager
 before the end of your internship

Internship report

The internship report is a 5 page written paper :
→ font Times New Roman size 11
→ brief description of activity and work environment of your host organization (1page)
→ assessment of acquired skills (1 page)
→ recount of insights gathered (3 pages)

 

Resume

Format: A4 page detailing your  and interests (community activities, hobbies, extracurricular activities) :
→education
→work experience (field internship included)
→interests (community activities, hobbies, extracurricular activities)
