With its numerous innovations, its acquisitions and its investments in emerging markets, the Arkema Group has risen to be one of the world key players in the area of Chemistry and Advanced Materials. Present in nearly 55 countries, Arkema takes this year’s Sciences Po Career Fair (Friday 28th September, Cité de la Mode et du Design) as an opportunity to meet Sciences Po’s students, whose global vision and varied skills are especially valued.

Sciences Po Careers - Could you briefly summarise Arkema’s activities? What are its priorities?

Arkema – Arkema designs innovative materials and solutions. It shapes materials and accelerates its clients’ performance so that new uses can be found for these materials once they are are lighter and better designed. We work on solutions and improved performances in the areas of biosourced products and the new energies, in the electronics sector, in water management and in the isolation of the habitat.

The Arkema Group is world leader in 90 % of its activities. The principles guiding our growth are innovation, an increased presence in emerging markets, and targeted acquisitions. These three priorities are based on the four fundamental pillars of the Group’s management:

  • Commercial excellence;
  • Operational excellence in industrial processes ;
  • Responsible growth guided by principles of CSR (Corporate Social Responsability).
  • The digital transformation of the Group.

Why does Arkema participate in the Career Fair ? Which skills and competences do you especially appreciate in our students ?

Arkéma – We value your students’ ability to exercise critical judgment, their analytical skills, and the global outlook they have on the great variety of subjects they are exposed to in their programme. Sciences Po’s diplomas are widely recognised. Moreover, your students represent a multicultural community, with 50% of them coming from 150 different countries. This is a real strength and something we look for, as we are ourselves very active internationally.

Arkema is committed to and supports a number of causes, for instance through Sciences Po’s Accessible Programme. Social responsability seems to be a real priority. Could you tell us more about these two points ?

Arkéma – Since 2008, Arkema has been proactive in its policies on disabilities. A fourth agreement was signed recently, covering the next four years, during which 60 employees will be employed, and during which the turnover made from the protected sector will increase by 21 %. Beyond these objectives, Arkema continues its actions in 5 key areas :

  • Protect disabled employees’ jobs and skills;
  • Show openness and inclusiveness in its recruitment processes, basing these solely on competence, and eliminating all prejudice;
  • Train young people so that they upgrade their competencies and increase their involvement in the enterprise.
  • Develop partnerships with the protected sector.
  • Encourage the internal actors to show openness, solidarity and to make the necessary daily efforts to stay mobilised
"Nous apprécions particulièrement l’avis critique et analytique des étudiants de Sciences Po, ainsi que leur vision globale"
"Arkema has been proactive in its policies on disabilities."
"we are very attentive to innovation and sustainable development"
"Arkema has committed and subscribed to the Sustainable Development Programme, leading up to 2030, and the fundamental goal of which are peace and prosperity, for individual nations and for the planet as a whole."

Our disability programme and the values we share with your institution led us to support Sciences Po’s Accessible Programme.

Moreover, we are very attentive to innovation and sustainable development. Beyond the United Nations’ Global Compact, which we actively support, Arkema has committed and subscribed to the Sustainable Development Programme, leading up to 2030, and the fundamental goal of which are peace and prosperity, for individual nations and for the planet as a whole.

What advice can you give our students for the Fair ? How could they stand out and get noticed ?

Arkéma – We recommend that students get information on the Group and on the current recruitments. They should also work on the professional project in advance of the Fair, this way their search will be clearer and more targeted. They should not be afraid of asking all the questions they have.
If you share our values and have a special interest in the industry, come and talk to us at the Fait on Friday 28th September !
