We invite you to get in touch with your internship supervisor to discuss the modalities of your internship (telework, face-to-face, mixed). If in doubt about the conditions of your internship, do not hesitate to contact Sciences Po Careers.

This information is valid for all current or future requests.

My internship takes place in France, am I allowed to work from my employer’s office?

Due to the current health situation, internships taking place REMOTELY (telework) remain highly recommended. However, since May 11, when teleworking is not possible or relevant, face-to-face internships can nevertheless be carried out under certain conditions.

These internships require strict compliance with the “protocole national de déconfinement” and, where applicable, the associated “fiches métiers associées”.

YES, internships in France can therefore be carried out totally or partially at your employer’s office, if social distancing measures are implemented by your employer. We invite you to get in touch with your internship supervisor to discuss the modalities of your internship (telework, face-to-face, mixed) and learn about the sanitary measures implemented.

If in doubt about the conditions of your internship, do not hesitate to contact Sciences Po Careers.

Please note that if your employer has previously sent us an “Employer Telework Certificate”, s.he is invited to send us the date of your return to the office by email.

Important :

  • For all internships taking place at your employer’s office abroad, we recommend you to make sure that you will be able to travel to and reside in your host country, and also that you can plan your return. As with all trips, we recommend you to stay informed by local authorities and your consulate about the international travel restriction measures that may arise in the country you plan to join.
  • Because of the uncertainty due to the pandemic, we strongly encourage you to consider that you may find yourself stranded in your host country against your will. So we invite you to favour internships in your permanent country of residence, where you can be surrounded and continue to follow your education from a distance, in the event of a limitation of international travels.
  • Please consult the "Regional Maps of Vigilance Zones" published by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in French: Ministère des Affaires Etrangères).

I found an internship but I cannot work remotely (telework), can I get an agreement?

Yes - under certain conditions. Please read “I have just found an internship in France or abroad: can I obtain an internship agreement?

How do I sign my internship agreement / amendment if my employer and / or I do not have a printer?

Under the current exceptional circumstances, it is sometimes not possible to print and / or sign the document. In this case, an email "Valid for agreement" may replace your signature or your employer’s.

Sciences Po is currently unable to sign your agreement. We will therefore validate your internship agreement via a "Valid for agreement" email.

Some employers have an electronic signature procedure or will invite you to electronically sign your agreement via free software such as peopledoc, docusign, adobe etc. Sciences Po Careers will be able to sign your agreement upon receipt of the email containing the electronic signature to be appended. Please indicate scpo.carrieres@sciencespo.fr as the reference address for the “Director of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris” and the “Academic advisor”.

My internship was suspended or interrupted during the COVID19 period, can I continue or resume it?

How can I indicate if I am doing my internship remotely or face-to-face?

When declaring your internship agreement, in the "Missions" section.

Am I required to accept an internship taking place at my employer’s office?

If you do not want to do your internship at your company’s office and your employer does not offer to telework, or if you have a doubt about the distancing measures implemented by your employer, please contact Sciences Po Careers.

What is the “national deconfinement protocol” (protocole national de déconfinement)?

Since the gradual lifting of the lockdown in France on May 11, 2020, the Ministry of Labour has published a “national deconfinement protocol” (protocole national de déconfinement) to help and support companies and associations, whatever their size, activity and geographic location, to resume their activity while ensuring the protection of the health of their employees through universal rules.
This foresees the reinforced role of the host company during a pandemic. It is the responsibility of companies to rethink their organizations and respect the “national deconfinement protocol” of May 3, 2020, in particular for:

  • Limiting meetings to what is strictly necessary,
  • Allowing the wearing of a mask when social distancing cannot be respected,
  • Cancelling or postponing unnecessary trips,
  • Adapting the work organization, in particular through the rotation of teams and the extension of working hours.

I asked for a gap year but I am not sure to find an internship as I thought, can I switch back to a school year?

We invite you to contact your Academic Advisor to assess your situation and consider your status change.
